On Friday we headed up to Cheyenne to do a little camping and see our favorite country star, Jason Aldean, in concert with Jake Owen.
It was awesome!
The Ohlheiser's joined us and we partied like rock stars as usual - maybe a little bit too much, because it too all weekend and part of Monday to recover!
Having been to several concerts up there before we knew the 2 hour drive home after the concert is brutal, so we checked into hotels way back in November to stay the night - no such luck! It seems they sell out a year in advance or you can pay like $400 a night to stay in a very questionable Holiday Inn. So we decided we would camp it - of course in our trailer, which is actually nicer then a hotel room! Finding a camp ground was also difficult - again they sell out years in advance - except for a little place known as Last Chance Camp. The name is quite fitting - basically its a farmer that owns a house and lots of land and opens it up just for the Frontier Days so people can camp and enjoy the rodeo! It was quite humorous when we pulled up and saw a sea of trailers, tents and cowboys running around. It was totally unorganized, chaotic, drunk people everywhere, and a crazy guy on a 4-wheeler - but so much fun! We quickly parked our trailer in a row with several others and started the party. We drank some beers...
played some cards...
drank some more beers...
and some more beers!
...and then grilled some fantastic kabobs for dinner!
In true Trujillo fashion we also survived a crazy storm that blew in from no where! I swear everytime we do ANYTHING we are rained, hailed or snowed on - EVERYTIME!
This time it started out with a very black sky which then led to some questionable clouds which then formed into a funnel cloud which then quickly got the entire campsite up in arms - where would a 1,000 people go if an actual tornado hit the ground - thankfully the funnel cloud quickly dissipated, but then golf size hail fell from the sky damaging our trailer followed by a down pour of heavy rain all with in about twenty minutes. It was absolute madness! Of course a rainbow and sunny skies followed and the rest of the evening was perfect.
The campsite offered a shuttle service to and from the fairgrounds - great idea, since I'm pretty sure there were no sober people anywhere...so we boarded the "short" bus and made our way to the concert!
Matt gave his Jell-O shot to this pretty girl from Texas - not sure what he was expecting in return, but he did get a picture with her!
We made it to our great front row seats and enjoyed every minute listening to Jake Owen and Jason Alder under a clear summer sky...and of course drank some more beers!
Stacey and I sported our knitted "beer" holders all night!
Jake Owen was amazing to watch!
He was the perfect opener for Jason Aldean and had so much energy getting the record breaking crowd fired up! He sang all my favorite songs - Barefoot Blue Jean Night, Summer Jam and 8 Second Ride!
He is very easy on the eyes as well!
Jason Aldean of course was AWESOME! I think Matt enjoyed the show more then anybody and rocked out to every song - so much so, he lost his voice a little bit!
Getting back to our campsite was another adventure...
It was completely chaotic after the show and the "short" bus was no where to be found and the driver was not answering her phone - so we teamed up with some other people from our camp, flagged down a pick up truck, hopped in the back and paid the driver twenty bucks to take us back to camp - crazy, I know - but we got back to camp safely! I don't think I've rode in the back of a truck since high school...
Our trip to Cheyenne Frontier Days was definitely the highlight of this summer!
We had so, SO much fun and I can't wait to plan another trip back there next year - hopefully some good country stars will come again!

There's nothing better then a weekend of camping with great friends surrounded by the world of country folk! Love it...
